Who We Are
The McCarton School provides
educational and therapeutic services for children with autism and their
families. Located in an 8,000-square-foot space on the Upper East Side,
The McCarton School provides year-round, individualized instruction
to 27 children, ages 3 to 13.
The McCarton School believes
strongly in the academic potential of all children and does its utmost
to ensure its students realize their full capabilities. The McCarton
School uses an integrated educational model rooted in Applied Behavioral
Analysis. All McCarton School students who have received aggressive
early intervention have made significant progress. Many have even gone
on to attend traditional public and private schools and now thrive in
and out of the classroom.
The McCarton School’s students
have access to a wide range of activities. The School’s gym includes
a rock-climbing wall, treadmill, ball pit, therapeutic swings and sensory
integration equipment. Students receive frequent breaks to play in this
area in addition to participating in weekly yoga classes, Thai chi,
and other structured exercise groups.. The McCarton School’s library
has a broad range of books at all reading levels, and students are welcome
to take books home. The library also has audio books and multiple educational
video games with which students can play during breaks.
The McCarton School takes pride
in being a family-friendly institution and encourages parents to take
an active role in their child’s education. All classrooms feature
observation areas from which parents may observe their child’s program
at any time.
